I started the Supreme Court of Texas Blog in December 2007, immediately after leaving Texas's Office of the Solicitor General. Although I had been reading blogs such as How Appealing and SCOTUSblog for years, my legal employers had not permitted blogging.
That experience, however, had given me a good working knowledge of the Texas Supreme Court. During my time at OSG, I was following the docket very closely on a broad range of issues. I also developed, on my own time, some computerized tools to help track pending cases and identify those on the so-called "submarine docket."
Today, those tools have grown up into the Texas docket-tracking system DocketDB. Some of the information feeds directly into the blog (such as the sidebar listing new briefing requests). Other information, such as detailed voting breakdowns of the Justices, is available only to subscribers.
The materials on SCOTXblog are available on the web to public and the bar. Many readers prefer to receive new articles through email updates.
